Smoking is the main cause of bronchitis.
The risk of chronic bronchitis in smokers compared with non smokers becomes much higher relative to the number of cigarettes smoked per day, and increases with age. If you smoke you are four or five times more likely to contract the disease than non-smokers.
If you stop smoking your chances of getting chronic bronchitis go down to the same level as for non-smokers within 5 years.
Risk Factors Of Chronic Bronchitis
The chronic form of bronchitis is defined as the enlargement of the airways or bronchi in the upper respiratory system as well as the overproduction of an abnormally high level of mucus.
Ultimately, this triggers cough and expectoration in a good number of people experiencing this condition. The coughing is more often than not observed in the early hours of morning right after getting up from bed, and is frequently known as ‘smokers cough’.
To reduce the risk of smoker’s cough try quitting smoking.
Several individuals often experience a kind of breathing difficulty, including labored breathing or shortness of breath. Several distinctive factors can play a role in someone getting chronic bronchitis, and the specific trigger may vary depending on the individual.
Some of the different risk factors that can lead to this condition are:
Cigarette Smoking. Now would be a good time to quit.
Cigarette smoking is the principal risk factor and leads to over 90% of all known cases of chronic bronchitis. People that at present battle with this condition and continue to smoke should stop ingesting nicotine or otherwise face the danger of developing worse difficulties. Examples of these difficulties include pneumonia, emphysema, and even lung infection. Lung infection is notably tough to care for due to an increased quantity of mucus in the upper part of the respiratory system. The mucus creates warmth and moisture in the area, transforming it into a hotbed for infectious bacteria.
Weak Immunity To Disease.
Weak immunity can be caused by smoking when the immune system gets compromised, spending a lot of time coping with the effects of smoke inhalation in the body. Increase the strength of your immune response by getting some treatment to stop smoking
People with a decreased resistance to disease are deemed to be more susceptible to developing chronic bronchitis. This includes the sick, old, young, and those people with immunity disorders. If you have a low resistance to disease and are thus worried about your health, it is recommended that you talk with your doctor about various medications and possible therapies that can help protect you from the onset of further respiratory difficulties.
Contact With Or Exposure To Lung Irritants
Smoking and the tar that is produced is a lung irritant . To clear your lungs of tar, give yourself the gift of a smoking cessation treatment and over time your lungs will improve.
People who are exposed to lung irritants while at work are at an increased vulnerability for acquiring chronic bronchitis. The most common careers that comprise these hazards are coal workers, welders, construction workers, and people whose jobs involve chemical labs. Dust is also considered an irritant affecting the lungs and must be stayed away from.
Recurrent Respiratory Infections
Smoking increases the chances of contracting recurrent respiratory infections. Quit smoking hypnosis
treatment is known to reduce or eliminate the addiction to smoking.
Individuals who suffer from recurring infections in the respiratory system have a much higher vulnerability to getting chronic bronchitis. These recurrent respiratory problems cause further complications in the upper respiratory system in its entirety , and can trigger your body toproduce thicker mucus. If you are battling with frequent infections involving the respiratory system you are advised to discuss your options for treating them with your doctor.
Frequent Exposure to Air Pollutants
Those who are frequently exposed to elevated quantities of air pollution are distinctly more susceptible to chronic bronchitis. Air pollution is a known irritant, so you must limit your exposure to polluted air consisting of dust, smoke or chemicals so as to put off contracting this awful and dangerous condition.
Acid Reflux Patients
Smoking can have a direct and injurious impact on the esophagus, making it more susceptible to damage from acid reflux . Stop the over production of mucous by following any one of a number of methods of how to quit smoking .
Patients who experience acid reflux are have an increased risk of developing chronic bronchitis. The acid reflux consumes the airways in the body, and triggers the body to create an elevated amount of mucus. A person’s bronchi can also become inflamed because of exposure to their gases.

I think the introduction of the e-cigarette is going to cut down in twenty years the amount of people that suffer from cancer because of smoking. We just have to wait and we will see the results but I am quite optimistic that smoking cancer will eventually become a thing of the past.
[...] you also know that many types of cancers are also thought to be caused by the harmful effects of cigarette smoking, including liver cancer, bladder cancer, cancer of the larynx, cancer of the throat, cancer of the [...]
electronic cigarette is the best way to quit smoking! i bought one to my father and after 2 months he doesnt need cigarettes anymore! highly recommended.
Brilliant news, Hans, I’m so glad to hear it
You have got a really great website! Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing more of your posts.
My son has smokers bronchitis, he has quit smoking cigarettes but claims its ok to smoke pot, is this true or does smoking pot also affect bronchitis effects in the future
Well, there are lots of opinions around. Here are a couple of them … you need to do some more research before making up your mind though, I would suggest…
Opinion A: “Yes it would be detrimental. Bronchitis, which is the inflammation of the bronchioles due to smoke irritation, will be irritated even if you use a water pipe because now you are introducing microscopic water particles into your lungs. Hence, it would probably be worse. Avoid it”
Opinion B: “I found marijuana to impair the function of my immune system. I stopped smoking it almost 5 years ago and hardly ever get sick. In terms of your curent diagnosis, I do not think that the smoke will seriously affect the condition, but you will most certainly recover quicker using immune system stimulators like Vitamin C, echinacea, non caffeinated teas, and good old fashioned rest”
Hello,
I’m a student who is doing a mini project based on smoking and
I was wondering if I could use some of your images on your webiste.
Please reply as soon as possible.
Thank you!
Which images do you want to use? What is the project and is it on or offline?
Dang
I just spent ages typing a long comment, and when I tried to send it my FireFox hung.
Did it come though or is it lost and I have to do it again?
That’s funny, because you said the exact same thing on another site of mine … do you really have anything original to say or just spamming everybody’s sites?
I would like to use the picture of the lungs and the picture of the skeleton smoking. It will be offline as I am making a brochure and a video that won’t be uploaded on the internet.
You can find these images by going to google images
I gave up smoking cigaretts and pot 4 months ago.I was a heavy user
of both. I am still coughing when i lay down to go to bed at night
i have a clear mucus coming up. It keeps me awake at night and i sometimes think is it all worth it is it normal to be still suffering
after 4 months.I have been to the doctors and he gave me antibiotics
but i am still coughing at night. Please help…
I remember it took me a while too for all the toxins to work their way out of my body after years of tobacco abuse …. but now i know it was well worth it. Theere are lots of things u could try, to support the process. some of the things I have found useful on my journey back to full health are EFT, liquid colloidal silver (a natural antibiotic that deals with many more strains than conventional antibiotics), vitamin C and deep breathing, especially breathing in the fresh air when you are out in a park or near trees and water
OK, I’m sure smokers get it by now. Smoking is bad…blah, blah… It’s been said and repeated many times before.
Stop smoking aids are everywhere. Most smokers have probably tried one or more. Some had success, many did not.
The question is not “Why don’t people stop smoking?”. It’s addicting and hard to quit, no matter how much you hear about the dangers.
The real question is “Why do people still start even today?”

It is something I don’t get, I mean seriously why do people smoke? I have some friends who started smoking because it makes them look “cool”. And every time someone near me smokes all the smoke comes to me, I don’t know if it is my luck or I am too sensitive.
