How Motivated Are You To Quit Smoking?

In the beginning, you will have to make sure you know what your motivations are.

Try to make time and browse through materials on how to quit smoking program for more weeks, so you know how bad your habit is. After a while, your desire to quit smoking will be founded by real facts. If you know you want to give up, don’t think too much about it, just quit as soon as you can make up a plan. Talking to others will allow you to learn that no one knows a secret trick which you are unfamiliar to, the only secret is will.

Why you should be quitting

Appreciate and note down all possible reasons:

-You will be adding a few more years to your life.

- You will not be considered a risk factor for strokes or cancer.

- You will protect family members from the toxic effects of cigarette smoke.

- You will have more energy and you will love life more.

- You can save money for a pleasurable activity, as a vacation or a nice home asset.

Write down everything that happens when you quit

No one can make you do anything, except yourself. A secret journal will help you evaluate all your reasons when it becomes hard to stay away from cigarettes. Here you could be answering yourself some smoking related questions:

How did smoking affect and influenced your life so far?

What enhancements and changes can you make?

How to deal with smokers in your home and at the office?

Are there things you like about a cigarette?

What makes you hate smoking?

Are there persons that can help you quit?

What would you be gaining if you stop?

Decide upon a precise quitting date

Decide on an early date. Do not delay it and make sure you pick a clear day of this month if you don t want to lose your enthusiasm. It s best to pick a day in which everything can go smoothly Plan a well though of daily schedule during the first days. These are the hardest days and if you don t have many responsibilities, you’d better choose either a few days off or some heavy days in which you know that because of the tight schedule you won’t have the time to think about cigarettes.

The first few days are different from person to person, some want to relax, others to do as many things as possible. Others just want to lay down. This is a decision that belongs to each one of us, but you’ll have to be ready to do whatever it takes to feel as comfortable as possible. Even sleeping for a long time can help. The addiction symptoms, felt during these few days, are intense, but they last for a short period of time. It s only part of the long process you need to go through if you want to return to living a normal life. You can help stop smoking in the end, and you will learn to love the person you ll become without the addiction chains to surround you.

Reasons To Quit Smoking

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Every person has their own reason to quit smoking.

It is true how educated the societies are today, but it is no secret about how millions still continue their smoking habit despite the health hazards that come with it. There are endless amounts of benefits that can be achieved if only a person could give up the unhealthy habit of smoking forever.

reason to quit smoking

Studies show that almost 90% of persons who suffer from lung cancer and oral cancer are smokers. Some smokers who are in the early stage of cancerous diseases or suffer from various other illnesses tend to quit smoking after they are diagnosed of a deadly disease like this. Smoking can always be stopped. It just needs a person’s will-power and an understanding of the reasons to quit smoking before they realize that it’s too late to do anything.

If God has given us the ability of breathing fresh air why would one want to ruin it and make breathing difficult? Additionally, you start to smell like smoke and your breath will start to smell stale.

10 reasons to quit smoking

Bad breath occurs as a result of continuous smoking. This is one of the reasons to quit smoking before long. Once a person quits this unhealthy habit, he or she will notice a difference. When a person stops smoking, the carbon monoxide comes back down to the normal level, increasing the stamina within a short period of time. This can happen during the first or second day after you have quit smoking. The blood circulation will also take place in a much better way.

Many smokers will experience a cough that never seems to end. This occurs due to the damages in the lungs. Once a person quits his smoking habit and the lungs start to heal, you will notice the coughing decrease with time.

Smoking cigarettes means a person loses his life every minute. Don’t you want to live a healthy life and not inflict pain on your loved ones? This is one of the reasons to quit smoking; the lesser amount you smoke will mean that you will be able to add more years to your life.

reasons to quit smoking

Quitting smoking has benefits for the smoker as well as the others around him. They will be able to breathe in fresh air for a change. If there are children involved, they wouldn t end with serious attacks of asthma, etc by inhaling the smoke. What s best is that there will be more money saved in your pockets which can be used for a better cause rather than spending it on cigarette packs.

Smoking Is Cool, Or Is It?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

how does cigarette smoking affect the lungs

Did you know that there are about a billion smokers in the world today and that about half of that number will die from their smoking habit and from smoking related deaths.

Why do people think smoking is cool

Reduce the risk by giving up Now!

Take a look at the  full page advertisement accompanying this article. It is from a 1937 edition of Life magazine that I spotted while on vacation in California last month.

This advertisement features Leslie Howard, a big Hollywood star of the 1930s (he was in Gone With The Wind). The quote, attributed to Howard, says “I am convinced that this smoke (Lucky Strike) is both delightful to the taste and the ‘top’ cigarette for an actor’s throat.” The subsequent ad copy claims that smoking a Lucky Strike actually “protects the throat”.

A second ad (for Camel) has one user saying “When I feel tired, I smoke a Camel and get the grandest ‘lift’ in energy. And I notice Camel helps my digestion too”.

The true facts are that smoking actually causes damage to the esophagus itself and this results in acid reflux or an increased production of mucous which is an absolute breeding ground for all sorts of nasty infections to develop, including chronic bronchitis. get your health back and find out where to seek help to quit smoking

Fans of old movies on TCM would be aware, of course, that for the first half of the Twentieth Century, smoking was considered really cool. Actors pulled out a cigarette from an elegant gold-plated case at the slightest provocation. Holding a cigarette and puffing out smoke rings developed into an art form. And one has to admit, it did look glamorous. No wonder, then, that millions of people – all over the world – got conned into the smoking lifestyle.

That was deceitful enough but, as these ads illustrate, the con game did not stop there. If the manufacturers were to be believed, smoking was actually ‘good’ for your health. They offered throat protection, an energy boost and an aid to digestion.

False advertising and hype is nothing new, of course, and goes on even today. While it may be somewhat excusable to hype one’s product and endow it with non-existent qualities, pushing a lifestyle as being ‘healthy’ for you – when the manufacturers, in all probability, knew that the reality was diametrically opposite – is atrocious. To the millions whose parents and grandparents lost their lives to lung cancer, these profit sharks have a lot to answer for.

Don’t let these death giving companies win. Your body changes when you stop smoking, for the better. The risk of contracting serious diseaes goes down dramatically over time and you get to keep your money.  Hypnosis is a recommended treatment for smoking addictions.

Even today some people are still touting the cool, ‘good’ effects of smoking in some places even arguing that smoking covers up the foul odor in their mouth from poor mouth hygeine. (Isn’t it better just to clean your teeth!)

The truth of the matter is that there are more deaths as a result of smoking alone than arise due to drinking alcohol, taking drugs like heroin and cocaine, deaths from AIDS, fire and car accidents and suicide all combined as a whole.

Smoking Smarties Latest Fad

It’s a fad that parents, teachers and even doctors worry could make smoking seem cool to kids. Not only that, some health officials say the practice may make breathing problems worse and could possibly lead to infections.

Why Is Smoking Cool Again?

We mean the whole battle over smoking being cool. Back in the 1950s and 1960s, when we beauty docs were either little girls or not even twinkles in our parents’ eyes, smoking in movies and TV was all the rage.

Health Effects Of Smoking Cigarettes And Taking Beta Carotene

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Beta carotene has benefits but doesn’t mix with smoking.

People who smoke at least one pack a day or drink higher than average amounts of alcohol and take Beta Carotene or Vitamin A supplements are at a higher risk for developing lung cancer and a higher risk of dying.

affected lungs by smoking Recent studies have shown that smoking and taking Beta Carotene supplements do not go together.

Health effects of smoking cigarettes

Beta Carotene is an antioxidant, which means that it inactivates free radicals in the body. In the process it oxidizes and can become a kind of pro-oxidant or forms oxidized by-products.

Normally we don’t have to worry about the by-products of Beta Carotene’s antioxidant behavior. If you maintain a healthy diet with a variety of antioxidants they will work in combination to protect one another from oxidizing.

It appears that smokers on the other hand do have something to worry about.

Two studies ending in the nineties found that people who smoked at least one pack a day or drank higher than average amounts of alcohol and took Beta Carotene or Vitamin A supplements were at a higher risk for developing lung cancer and a higher risk of dying.

Each of these trials showed that Beta Carotene wasn’t helping many of its smoking participants and was in fact hurting some of them. The first trial called The Alpha-Tocopheral, Beta Carotene Cancer Prevention Trial showed eighteen percent more lung cancer and eight percent more deaths in male smokers who took 20mg of Beta Carotene. The second trial called the Beta Carotene and Retinol Efficacy Trial (CARET) initial results showed that there was twenty eight percent more lung cancer in the group of smokers and former smokers it had taking Beta Carotene and Vitamin A and seventeen percent more deaths.

Give up smoking before it kills you

These results were so similar to the Cancer Prevention Trial final results that they told the participants to stop taking the supplements before the trial was scheduled to end.

Why is this so? Well, since it’s thought that anti-oxidants protect each other from oxidizing scientists suspect that smokers don’t have enough of the other types of antioxidant vitamins in their systems to prevent this from occurring. It has been found that smokers have low levels of Vitamin C in their blood stream-and that’s’ one of the antioxidants.

treatment for smoking So the Beta Carotene oxidizes in the body after it uses up its antioxidant properties and in effect becomes a free radical damaging or exacerbating damage done to the cells of smokers lungs which leads to abnormal cell growth and cancer. With low levels of other kinds of antioxidants in their bodies there’s nothing to stop it.

Scientists believe that the two antioxidants that work together to protect the body from Beta Carotene pro oxidant damage are Vitamins E and C.

A diet for smokers or those wishing to give up smoking needs to contain all of the vitamins acting together.

If you are a smoker you should by no means try to avoid Beta Carotene or Vitamin A in your diet. These trials seem to show that all anti-oxidants work together to prevent cancer and isolating one or the other for consumption, especially in a non-natural form, simply negates its effects and sometimes causes problems. What you should be doing is focusing on eating a lot of foods with antioxidants in combination.

There is no evidence as of current that suggests eating foods with Beta Carotene in them can increase the risk of cancer in smokers.
